A dining room here is chosen down to the plate. Versace Home covers the whole room, from the table to the porcelain set on it, which is rare for a furniture house and which opens a question others never ask: how far down should the pattern go. Looking at the collection closely, a logic appears. The ornament sits in the base, in the back, under the plate, almost never where people eat.
The pattern is in the base and in the back
The table sets the tone without announcing it. The V-Marble dining table by Versace Home comes in round or rectangular versions, and its top is bare marble: the quilted V motif and the Barocco V logo in metal have moved down into the base and the asymmetrical legs. The Tholos table by Versace Home works the same way, with sculptural legs that reinterpret the fluted column through concave and convex forms, while the top stays in wood or marble. On the seating side, the La Medusa dining chair by Versace Home carries its signature at the back, a decorative zipper that traces the whole backrest, with the Medusa emblem in relief and slender tapered legs.
Under the plate, not in it
The same rule governs the table setting, and it holds to the centimetre. The La Coupe des Dieux presentation plate by Versace Home measures 33 cm and carries all the decoration: scrolls, floral tracery and the Medusa picked out in gold. The Barocco ‘92 Bianco deep plate by Versace Home, the one food actually arrives in, measures 21.5 cm and stays matte white. One frames the other, and the drawing stays visible without ever going under the food. Even the Barocco Haze bowl lid by Versace Home follows the rule: the motif is on the lid, and the bowl underneath stays free for whatever is served in it.
Composing your dining room at Maison Territo
None of this is ordered blind. Versace Home tables and chairs are specified covering by covering, colour by colour, dimension by dimension, which calls for a conversation rather than a cart. At the showroom in Montreal, our designers lay the marbles beside the leathers and the porcelain on the table, because the gap between a busy pattern and a measured one is judged by eye and never on a screen. Maison Territo stays with you from the first table plan through to delivery.
