Long before Raimond became a recognizable light, Raimond Puts was fascinated by the way things fit together. Mathematics, mechanics, structure and the night sky all fed his curiosity. He was especially drawn to geodesic domes and the patterns created by prime numbers. What began as an exploration of shapes and structures became a much longer journey. For almost 40 years, Puts experimented, built prototypes and even created his own machines to test ideas. His goal was not simply to make a beautiful lamp, but to understand how a complex structure could come together with precision and still feel remarkably light.
From structure to starlight
The result was Raimond, introduced by Moooi in 2009. Its open spherical frame is made from slender stainless-steel elements that intersect to create a delicate geometric network. Tiny LEDs are positioned throughout the structure, giving the impression of a constellation floating in the room. When the light is on, the framework almost disappears, leaving points of light that recall a clear night sky. It is a design that feels technical when you look closely, yet warm and atmospheric once it is illuminated.
Raimond II: an evolution of the original
Years later, Moooi returned to the original design and gave it a new dimension. Raimond II keeps the characteristic spherical form and constellation-like appearance, but its LEDs are now more than twice as bright while using the same amount of wattage as the original. The result is a stronger presence without losing the visual lightness that made Raimond so distinctive. It is an evolution rather than a reinvention: the same idea, refined for contemporary interiors.
More ways to shape the atmosphere
Raimond II also gives the user more control over the mood of a space. Its dimming possibilities allow the light to move from bright and expressive to soft and intimate, with compatibility across several control systems and smart-home platforms.
