Kintsugi de Seletti chez Maison Territo

A broken ceramic object is usually repaired so the damage disappears. Kintsugi works the other way. The japanese art marks the repairs in gold and leaves the object's history in view. Seletti and designer Marcantonio take that as the starting point for a contemporary collection in which different porcelain fragments, colours and patterns are drawn together by golden lines. The divisions become the subject.

Kintsugi tableware and its japanese source

The Kintsugi dessert plate 02 brings contrasting porcelain patterns into a single composition. Its gold coloured seams mark where one decorative fragment ends and the next begins, turning the surface into a record of change. The Kintsugi soup plate 03 carries the same principle into a deeper format. Taken one at a time, these pieces add an unexpected detail to a simple table; set together, they build a service held by one golden language without every motif having to agree.

From the table to the decorative object

The Love in Bloom Kintsugi vase carries the idea elsewhere in the home. Shaped as an anatomical heart, it pairs an expressive silhouette with visible golden seams. Flowers can be arranged through its openings, though the vase has enough presence to stand alone. Beside the plates, it shows how the collection moves from tableware to decorative design while keeping the same treatment of contrast, fragment and gold.

Kintsugi stands apart within Seletti's universe because its visual impact begins with what is usually concealed: a break, a join, a change in surface. Marcantonio turns that into a consistent language, one that makes each composition complete without making it uniform. The collection also says something about Seletti's habit of rereading familiar forms through art and symbol. The Kintsugi collection is presented at Maison Territo in Montreal.
